Tamil Nadu Seek Aide Of Over Rs 2,600 Crores From Centre To Restore Normalcy In Rain-Hit Areas

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday sought financial help of Rs 2,629 crores from the Centre to restore normalcy after the recent rains battered parts of the state. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a six-member team is sent by the Centre to Tamil Nadu to assess the situation in the rain-hit regions in the state.

According to a report in The New Indian Express, of the Rs 2,629 Crores, the state government mentioned that Rs 2,079 crores to be utilised for the long-term restoration works while Rs 550 crores to be used for the relief works in the areas which were battered by the recent rains.

The report further said that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin over the phone and assured support from that Centre. The team from the Centre to assess the damages that caused due to the severe rains and prepare a report.

TN sought financial support for infra development in the state

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan on Tuesday sought financial aide from the Centre while making a few requests to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

According to a report in The Hindu, the Finance Minister requested the Centre for adequate supply of coal to provide uninterrupted power supply to the households in the state. Besides, he urged the Union government to declare the airport in Madurai as an international airport as the development in terms of infrastructure has almost come to a rope end.
