Chennai: Actor Suriya's home in T Nagar has been given full police protection after controversy sparked between him and Vanniyar Sangam members in connection with his recent movie Jai Bhim. The Vanniyar community members alleged that the movie has targeted the image of their caste members and Mayiladuthurai Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) district secretary Panneerselvam announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh to anyone who attack the actor.

According to a report on ABP Nadu, the controversy between actor Suriya and Vanniyar Sangam broke out after the alleged portrayal of Vanniyars in a bad light by using the symbol and names of the community members in his recent movie Jai Bhim.

Following this, Vanniyar Sangam sent a legal notice to Suriya wherein the association urged the makers of the movie to remove the symbol of a raging firepot in the movie, which is the symbol of the community. The Vanniyar Sangam also demanded an apology from the makers for "damning, tarnishing and damaging the reputation" of the community through the movie and demanded a payment of Rs 5 lakh for the damages.
