Northeast Monsoon Likely To Arrive In Tamil Nadu Between Oct 23 And 25
In most parts of Karnataka and Telangana, the weather agency said that the Southwest monsoon was retreating gradually paving way for Northeast monsoon in Tamil Nadu.
In a much-needed respite for Tamil Nadu, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai on Saturday said that the Northeast is likely to hit the state between October 23 and 25. The Northeast monsoon is the season that provides major rainfall share for Tamil Nadu. The wet conditions are also likely to continue in Tamil Nadu till October 19.
In most parts of Karnataka and Telangana, the weather agency said that the Southwest monsoon was retreating gradually and was making way for the start of the Northeast monsoon, reported IANS.
The RMC officials said that they were studying the retreating of Southwest monsoon and the weather pattern.
On Monday, they said, Coimbatore and Theni districts would experience heavy rainfall due to cyclonic circulation over South Tamil Nadu and neighboring areas.
They said, only when specific conditions are met will the beginning of the northeast monsoon be officially declared. This includes the southwest monsoon's complete retreat, the onset of easterlies along the coast of Tamil Nadu, and rather widespread showers across Tamil Nadu, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, and other nearby locations.
On the weather conditions in TN on Saturday, the IMD said, "Light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal area."
For Chennai, IMD said, "Sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Light/Moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum temperature is likely to be 33-34°C and
minimum temperature is likely to be 25-26 °C."
An independent weather blogger from Chennai also predicted rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu. The weather blogger, who runs COMK page on social media said, "West #TamilNadu & Central TN may see widespread #Thunderstorms along with parts of #Kerala due to favorable wind convergence. Thanks to moisture from Easterlies coastal places like #Chennai may see light to moderate #Rains."
