Theatres to be opened with 50 per cent occupancy from August 23, while schools for classes IX to XII will be reopened from September 1 on a rotational basis
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Government has extended the lockdown for two more weeks ending on September 6 with further relaxations. In this phase, threatre and schools for classes IX to XII students will be reopened.
After consulting with the health officials and taking close look at the Covid situation in the state, Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that the lockdown will be extended for two more weeks but with further relaxations. In release CM MK Stalin said that that Before the schools reopen Teaching and non-teaching staff must be vaccinated.

Know here what are allowed to function:
- The government has announced to reopen schools from September 1 for classes IX to XII on a rotational basis.
- The government also considered the reopening of schools for classes 1 to 8 will be decided after September 15.
- All colleges including Polytechnic colleges to reopen from Sept 1 on a rotational basis
- Theatres to reopen with 50 per cent occupany from August 23.
- Hawkers are allowed to do business in the beaches but corporation must ensure that they are vaccinated.
- Zological parks, botanical gardens and boat houses can reopen with special guidelines.
- Inter-state public transport to neighbouring states, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, will be permitted to operate.
- Swimming pools can be open for 50 per cent occupancy
- IT/ITES companies are allowed to work with 100 per cent strength
- Anganwadis will be permitted to supply mid-day meals from September 1
- Hotels and Bars are allowed to function.
Meanwhile, on Friday, the state has recorded 1,668 with a slight rise of cases in 14 districts. Almost after five months, the number of cases have come down below 1,700 in the state as reportedly the last time the state recorded Covid cases below 1,700 was on March 24. Except four districts in the state -- Coimbatore, Chennai, Chengalpattu and Erode -- the cases recorded in each district was less than 100 on Friday.
