Tamil Nadu Govt To Pass Bill Against NEET In State Assembly On Monday, Announces CM MK Stalin

Even earlier, DMK during the run up for Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2021 made a promise in the election manifesto to pass a Bill against NEET in the first Legislative Assembly session.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday announced that a Bill will be introduced in the State Assembly seeking exemption from National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) on Monday. The decision of the Chief Minister came after the demise of a NEET aspirant Dhanush, who took his own life due to the fear of attending NEET hours before the scheduled exam on Sunday.

In a tweet, Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote, "There is another demise due to the death pedestal, NEET. Hence, we have decided to introduce a Bill against NEET in the Assembly on Monday. We will make NEET an issue of the subcontinent."

The Chief Minister then went on to recall the death of Dhanush, a NEET aspirant, who killed himself on Sunday. Stalin said, "The demise of Dhanush who took his life due to the fear of attending NEET came as a shock to me. The suicides and scams in NEET did not change the mind of the Union government. This just shows that the issue will be solved only if education comes under the state list."

"However, now our legal fight against NEET begins. On Monday, we will pass a Bill against NEET in the Assembly. We will bring the Bill to the attention of all the state governments. So, students do not lose hope and the government has a great responsibility of ensuring your future hence until the Union government removes NEET our legal fight will continue," he added.

The DMK during the run-up for Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2021 made a promise in the election manifesto to pass a Bill against NEET in the first Legislative Assembly session. However, the DMK government has decided to pass the Bill on the last day of the Budget session on Monday.
