Tamil Nadu Electricity Tariff Revision To Be Implemented From Today
From now on, the power tariff is also likely to be revised on July 1 every year till 2027 based on inflation.
Chennai: The new electricity tariff revision proposed by Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) will come into effect from Saturday. As a result, the rates for electricity consumption are set to go higher as Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has also given a nod for the revision.
From now on, the power tariff will also be revised on July 1 every year till 2027 based on inflation.
According to the new tariff, the rates are fixed 12% to 52% higher than the previous tariff for this year. Moreover, the consumers who use 200 units will have to pay Rs 55 more, 300 units will have to pay Rs 145 more and 400 units will have to pay Rs 295 more.
Similarly, the people using 500 units will have to pay Rs 310 more, 600 units will have to pay Rs 550 more, 700 units will have to pay Rs 595 more, 800 units will have to pay Rs 790 more and 900 units should pay Rs1,130 more.
No charge will continue for the first 100 units.

Currently, the charge per unit is Rs 4.50 for consumers using up to 400 units while the previous tariff was Rs 3 per unit. Above 400 units, the tariff will be Rs 6 per unit and above 500 till 600 units, the tariff will be Rs 8 per.
The consumers using electricity above 600 units till 800 units will have to pay Rs 9 per unit and users consuming above 1000 units pay Rs 11 per unit.

The TNERC accepted the new tariff revision as proposed by Tangedco.
However, the Opposition and the public raised concerns over the hike and said that the hike was too sharp.
