Squash Player Jumps From First Floor To Escape Sexual Advances Of Trainer In Kanchipuram

Based on the complaint, the police arrested the accused on various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Tamil Nadu Prevention of Women Harassment Act. 

Chennai: A 20-year-old squash player jumped from the first floor of a residential building after her trainer tried to allegedly rape her at his residence in Kancheepuram on Sunday. After a complaint from the student, the police nabbed the accused on Monday.  

On Sunday, Murugesan, a trainer, was providing coaching to students at Kancheepuram Railway Station Road. The survivor also had come for training. After the training, the player asked the trainer for her certificate.

However, Murugesan told her that he had kept the certificate at his house and told her to get it at the house. When the survivor visited the house, Murugesan called her in and tried to make advances. When she resisted, the accused forced himself on her following which she jumped from the first floor of the house and ran away from the spot.

Later, she gave a complaint to Vishnu Kanchi police. Based on the complaint, the police arrested the accused on various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Tamil Nadu Prevention of Women Harassment Act. 

The police said that he was previously suspended as a coach at a government sports academy after a fight in a parking lot of a supermarket. However, he was reportedly reinstated, said a report on The New Indian Express.

The police are also investigating on the angle whether he misbehaved with any other students. 

In December last year, a taekwondo coach who was appointed on a temporary basis in a school hostel in Perambalur was arrested on charges of sexual harassment of minor girls. The accused was arrested under Sections 7 and 8 of the POCSO Act on Monday and a court sent him to judicial custody.
