Brahmapuram Plant Fire Yet To Be Doused, Kerala Congress Demands Court-Monitored Probe
While Kerala government maintained that the fire was due to extreme heat, Kerala Congress alleged that it could be a man-made accident and should be probed.
Chennai: Kerala Congress workers marched to Kochi Corporation office on Monday demanding a High Court monitored probe into Brahmapuram waste plant fire accident. The fire at the waste plant which started on Thursday continued to billow for five days until Monday.
While Kerala government maintained that the fire was due to the heat, Kerala Congress alleged that it could be a man-made accident and should be probed.
The Kerala High Court has initiated a suo motu writ petition for the fire incident that happened at the Brahmapuram waste plant.
According to ANI, “Kerala | Congress workers today marched to Kochi Corporation office as part of the protest seeking a High Court-monitored probe into the fire incident at the Brahmapuram waste plant. Fire broke out last Thursday and is yet to be doused completely.”

A fire broke out at Brahmapuram waste plant on Thursday. The fire soon spread to Alappuzha, Kochi and other areas. The fire and safety officials are involved in trying to extinguish the fire for the past five days. Though the fire had come under control, the smoke engulfed the whole region.
As a result, Kochi city declared a holiday for anganwadi, kindergarten, daycare and classes 1 to 7 on Monday.
Meanwhile, Industries Minister P Rajeeve told the Assembly that the fire was under control and that it would be put out soon, as per Manorama. He also said that people do not have to be confined in their homes and can move out by taking precautions including N95 masks.
Earlier, the State Human Rights Commission directed the state Chief Secretary, Ernakulam District Collector and others to submit a report on the action taken to permanently solve the smoke issues from the fire at the plant.
