SC Grants Interim Bail To AIADMK Ex-Minister Rajenthra Bhalaji For Four Weeks

The SC gave the bail with conditions including to surrender the passport.

Chennai: The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted conditional bail for four weeks to former AIADMK Minister Rajenthra Balaji, who was arrested in a job fraud case. The Court has also ordered the AIADMK leader to stay within the police station limit where the FIR was registered, to be available for investigation and to surrender the passport with the court.

On January 5, Tamil Nadu police arrested former Minister Rajenthra Balaji in connection with a job fraud case in Hassan of Karnataka district after a lookout for several days.

The police zeroed down on the AIADMK leader after they spotted the vehicle of the former Minister on BM Road in Hassan. The police searched for the vehicle and then took the former Minister into custody.

The arrest was made based on a complaint that the leader while he was the former Minister for Milk and Dairy Development collected lakhs of money with the promise of giving government jobs.

Meanwhile, last Thursday, the Supreme Court heard the appeal by Rajenthra Bhalaji against Madras HC order denying anticipatory bail in an alleged government scam. The case came up before Chief Justice NV Ramana, justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli who got irked with the raids at the residence of lawyers representing Bhalaji. The Court asked the Tamil Nadu government why they attacked and raided lawyers and whether their intention was to deprive SC of hearing the matter.

Later, the court made an observation while senior advocate Dushyant Dave appearing for the former Minister requested for an urgent hearing and listed the case to January 10.
