IMD Issues Red Alert For Four Tamil Nadu Districts For Next Two Days. Check Details

Red Alert In Tamil Nadu: The state government also sent four National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to Kanyakumari and the Nilgiris districts as a precautionary measure to tackle the monsoon.

Chennai: The India Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a red alert for four districts of Tamil Nadu including Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur and Coimbatore due to heavy rainfall predicted in the districts for the next two days till August 5. The IMD also issued an orange alert to parts of Nilgiris, Erode, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari for the next two days. 

In a bulletin, the IMD said, "Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places is likely to occur over Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur and Coimbatore districts from 8.30 Am on Tuesday to 8.30 am on Friday."

"Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Nilgiri, Erode, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Madurai and Virudhunagar districts till Friday," the IMD said.

In Chennai, MET said that the sky will continue to be cloudly with light/moderate rainfall coupled with thunderstorms for the next 48 hours. The maximum and minimum temperature is likely to be around 33-34˚C and 26-27˚C respectively.

The IMD also predicted squally weather with wind speed reaching 50-60 Kmph over Comorin area, Gulf of Mannar, TN coast and SW Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast. Hence, IMD advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu government rushed four National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to Kanyakumari and the Nilgiris districts as a precautionary measure to tackle the monsoon.
