Tiranga Utsav: Govt To Honour Pingali Venkayya, Man Behind Tricolour. Amit Shah To Launch 'Har Ghar Tiranga' Anthem

The 'Tiranga Utsav' has been organised today on 146th birth anniversary of Pingali Venkayya's — freedom fighter and designer of the national flag.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will participate in the 'Tiranga Utsav' being organised by the Ministry of Culture in New Delhi today. The event is being organised to celebrate the freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya who designed the national flag and made a huge contribution to the nation. 

The 'Tiranga Utsav' has been organised today on the occasion of Venkayya's 146th Birth Anniversary. According to the press release by the Ministry of Culture, the event will include the release of a commemorative Postal Stamp in honor of Pingali Venkayya for his invaluable contribution to the country and his family will feleiciated by the chief guest Amit Shah.

The Home Minister will launch the “Har Ghar Tiranga” anthem and video during the 'Tiranga Utsav' . The musical evening will see live performances by maestros such as Kailash Kher and Kailasa, Harshdeep Kaur, and Dr. Ragini Makkhar. 

Other ministers who are scheduled to join include Ashwini Vaishnav, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Meenakshi Lekhi, and Devusinh Chauhan. Also, on August 3, MPs will take out a bike rally from Red Fort, which will be flagged off by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu. 

Pingali Venkayya, a freedom fighter and the designer of India’s National Flag was a follower of Gandhian principles, and it was upon the request of Mahatma Gandhi that he designed the Indian National Flag with saffron, white and green colors with chakra in the middle. 

To commemorate the 75 years of India's Independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his last Mann Ki Baat address appealed to all to replace their social media profile pictures with that of the national flag. He also urged every citizen to fly the tricolour from August 13 to August 15 at their homes.

Telangana to distribute over 1 crore national flags on Independence Day

On the occasion of Independence day, Telangana government will distribute 1 crore tricolors to various states. According to ABP News sources states like Uttar Pradesh and Delhi will use the Made in Telangana flag.

Various programs and festivals are also being organized across the country under 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' campaign to commemorate the completion of 75 years of independence.

With only two weeks left for the Independence Day, hundreds of artisans are involved in making over 1 crore flags.

An order for polyester fabric worth Rs 30 lakh has been received from the craftsmen of Sirisila handloom. Hundreds of men and women are busy preparing the flags at their power looms.

Apart from Telangana, the artisans of Sirisila are also preparing orders for the flags found in four other states of the country.
