PM Modi Cancels TN Visit, To Inaugurate 11 New Medical Colleges & New CICT Campus Via Video-Conferencing

Meanwhile, PM Modi was also scheduled to attend ‘Modi Pongal’ event on January 12 but the event stays canceled due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu to attend government and party-related events stays canceled on January 12, as per the official communication from the PMO on Monday. However, the Prime Minister will inaugurate 11 medical colleges across Tamil Nadu and a new campus for Central Insitute of Classical Tamil (CICT) through video-conferencing on January 12 amid the surge in novel coronavirus cases. 

According to a report on PTI, the Prime Minister will inaugurate 11 medical colleges constructed at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore of which Rs 2,145 crore was contributed by the Union government for the project. The new colleges are set to be inaugrated in Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Ramanathapuram, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur and Krishnagiri. 

The PMO said that the medical colleges were established in line with PM's constant endeavor to promote affordable medical education and health infrastructure. 

In Tamil Nadu, all the new colleges together will provide 1,450 seats.

Meanwhile, a campus for the Central Insitute of Classical Tamil in Chennai is also scheduled to be inaugurated by PM Modi. The PMO said the inauguration is in line with PM Modi's vision to protect and preserve Indian heritage and promote the classical language. 

The new campus funded by the Union government was built at the cost of Rs 24 crore.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate National Youth Conference in Puducherry via online video-conferencing. Meanwhile, PM Modi was also scheduled to attend the ‘Modi Pongal’ event set to be organised by Tamil Nadu BJP but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
