NMC Renews Five-Year Recognition For Stanley, Dharmapuri Medical Colleges

Earlier, NMC issued a notice to derecognise the three medical colleges in Tamil Nadu.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) allowed Government Stanley Medical College and Government Dharmapuri Medical College to continue to operations, said Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Thursday. The NMC has also allowed the government to carry out admission for undergraduate students. Earlier, NMC issued a notice to derecognise the three medical colleges in Tamil Nadu.

According to IANS, Minister Ma Subramanian said, "NMC has withdrawn the notice sent to both the medical colleges derecognising them after the compliance report has been submitted."

He said that a written statement will soon come in this regard.

Ma Subramanian said: "Several parties were creating rumours in the media that the medical colleges in Tamil Nadu were being shut down. Tamil Nadu Health Department had already released a clarification that this was a routine process."

"NMC had conducted inspections in 140 medical colleges across the country and it is a continuous process for the NMC to point out minor deficiencies and the respective departments to rectify them," he said.

The NMC, earlier, issued a notice to derecognise three medical colleges including Government Stanley Medical College, Government Dharmapuri Medical College and K.A.P. Viswanathan Government Medical College, Tiruchi after inspections.

The NMC said that the biometric attendance system and CCTV cameras were not in place during the inspection.

Following this, Tamil Nadu Health Department officials visited New Delhi. They said that the defects will be rectified.
