Man, Son Die After Firecracker They Were Carrying On Bike Explodes Near Tamil Nadu

Three other motorists who were riding closer to Kalainesan's vehicle also suffered injuries and are receiving treatment in JIPMER Hospital of Puducherry, said ANI report.

Chennai: A father and son, who were carrying firecrackers on their two-wheelers, died after the crackers they were carrying in a gunny bag exploded near Chinna Kottakupam between Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. The police identified the deceased as Kalainesan from Ariyankuppam and his son Pradeesh. Both the duo were returning to the Puducherry for selling firecrackers after taking a bag of crackers from Kalainesan’s in-law’s home in Konnimedu at the time of the incident.

In a shocking visual from the spot, Kalainesan was seen riding the two-wheeler while his son was riding pillion carrying a gunny bag of firecrackers. When the vehicle neared Kottakuppam, the crackers exploded throwing the two motorists to a distance. Three other motorists who were riding closer to Kalainesan's vehicle also suffered injuries and are receiving treatment in JIPMER Hospital of Puducherry, said ANI report.

Soon after the incident, Ariyankuppam police registered a case and are currently carrying out the investigation.

The Villupuram SP Shreenatha who visited the spot told Indian Express that Kalainesan bought crackers kept in his in-law's place on  November 3. The next day, he took a bag of crackers from Koonimedu and was riding towards Puducherry at the time of the incident.

The SP said, the crackers would have exploded due to friction caused by heat. The police also seized another bag of crackers from Koonimedu. They also registered a case under Sections of the Indian Penal Code and Explosive Act.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu registered 891 cases since Monday against people defying the order to burst green crackers only for two hours on Diwali from 6 am to 7 am and 7 pm to 8 pm.
