7 Killed In Explosion At Firecrackers Factory In Tamil Nadu's Viragalur

The incident took place at around 9.30 am in Viragalur.

New Delhi: At least seven people were killed in an explosion in a firecracker godown in Tamil Nadu's Ariyalur district on Monday. The incident took place at around 9.30 am in Viragalur.

The exact reason behind the blast is yet unknown.

The blast took place after a major explosion occurred in Attibele near the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border in which 14 people were killed.

This is the fourth blast that has occurred in the firecracker manufacturing units of Tamil Nadu in the past three months. In July nine persons were killed at a fireworks godown in Krishnagiri district and in September one person was killed and three were injured in an explosion at Nagapattinam district, reported IANS.

Earlier on Wednesday, four persons died in a mishap while manufacturing country-made explosives in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. The workers from the area were engaged in making firecrackers as Diwali is around the corner, reported ANI. The police said the workers were making firecrackers when the explosives suddenly started to blast with a loud noise.

Nagapattinam District SP Harish Singh had said that there were eight people inside the factory at the time of the mishap. The four others suffered injuries and were taken to Nagapattinam Government Hospital for treatment.

In another incident, three people were injured in an explosion at a firecracker manufacturing factory in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district on Tuesday.

The Fire Department had said that the wounded were admitted to Sivakasi Government Hospital for treatment.

Earlier in September, a fire had erupted in a women's paying guest (PG) facility located in an apartment in Northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area prompting a swift response from firefighters who successfully rescued 35 individuals, including a four-year-old girl, from the blaze, news agency PTI reported citing officials.
