Uttarakhand Congress Crisis: Harish Rawat, Top State Leaders To Meet Party High Command Today

Congress Legislature Party leader Pritam Singh, Uttarakhand Congress chief Ganesh Godiyal and party leader Yashpal Arya along with Harish Rawat will be meeting with the Congress' central leadership.

New Delhi: Months ahead of the election in Uttarakhand, Congress found themselves in hot water as former state chief minister Harish Rawat created flutter after he posted several tweets criticising his own party and hinting a defection or retirement.

In the wake of such a situation, state Congress leaders and Harish Rawat will be meeting party high command today in Delhi.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Pritam Singh, Uttarakhand Congress chief Ganesh Godiyal and party leader Yashpal Arya will be present in the meeting with the central leadership.

"We will meet party general secretary KC Venugopal and also Rahul Gandhi if necessary and put things before them. I hope a solution will be found," Godiyal said ahead of the visit.

Rawat on Twitter alleged non-cooperation from his organisation and noted that he sometimes feels it is "time for him to rest."

"Isn't it strange, one has to swim in the sea in the form of the forthcoming electoral battle, instead of cooperation, the organisational structure at most places is turning its face away or is playing a negative role," Rawat on Wednesday said in a tweet.

As tensions escalated in the Uttarakhand Congress, top leaders on Thursday spoke to Harish Rawat to mollify his public outburst against the party.

The senior leaders sought to know from Rawat the reasons behind his criticism and was asked to continue to work towards ensuring the party's victory in the upcoming polls, PTI reports.
