UP Govt Removes DGP Mukul Goel For 'Disobeying Order, Neglecting Work'

Mukul Goel, a 1987-batch IPS officer, was appointed as the Uttar Pradesh director general of police in June last year. Before that, Goel was posted in the Border Security Force (BSF).

New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday has removed the Director General of Police (DGP) Mukul Goel from his post for ‘neglecting work’, an official statement said. According to reports, Goel has been appointed the Director General (DG) of the Civil Defence department, the statement further said.     

The statement released further added that Mukul Goel was removed from his post as the DGP for disobeying order, neglecting his official work and not taking interest in departmental work.

It has been decided that till the appointment of the new DGP, Additional Director General (ADG), Law and Order, Prashant Kumar will be the caretaker DGP of Uttar Pradesh.

According to sources, three names are being discussed for the post. The name of Anand Kumar along with DG Intelligence DS Chauhan and RK Vishwakarma have been doing the rounds.

It is to be noted that Mukul Goel, a 1987-batch IPS officer, was appointed as the Uttar Pradesh director general of police in June last year. Before that, Goel was posted in the Border Security Force (BSF).

He still had almost two years of service and was due to retire in February-end 2024.

Mukul Goel has been the SP of Azamgarh and SSP of Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Saharanpur and Meerut districts.

Mukul Goel has also been the DIG of Kanpur, Agra, Bareilly range and IG of Bareilly zone. Apart from this, Mukul Goel has also worked in ITBP, BSF, NDRF at the centre.

Hailing from the Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, Mukul Goel has studied in IIT, Kharagpur.
