CBI Sends Summons To Ex-UP CM Akhilesh Yadav In Illegal Mining Case

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has been summoned by the CBI for questioning in an illegal mining case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday sent a summons to former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh in an illegal mining case. The federal probe agency — which has sent the summons under 160 CrPC — has asked the SP chief to appear before it for questioning as a witness tomorrow, Thursday.

The case in which Yadav has been summoned pertains to the mining ministry of Uttar Pradesh between 2012 and 2017 when he was the chief minister of the state and held the mining portfolio.

A case was registered in connection with the matter after a High Court order dated July 28, 2016.

Hamirpur District Magistrate,  Geologist, Mining Officer, Clerk, Lease Holder and private and unknown persons were booked in the case under Prevention of Corruption Act.

Following the development, the Samajwadi Party was quick to react saying that the centra agencies become active every election and send summons at the behest of the BJP.

"CBI ED becomes active before every election and sends summons at the behest of BJP. We are not among those who are afraid," said SP leader IP Singh in a post on X.

Summons to Yadav comes a day after his I.N.D.I.A bloc ally, Arvind Kejriwal was sent summons by the ED.

On Tuesday, Aam Aadmi Party national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was sent eighth summons by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case linked to the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the excise policy in the national capital.

The enforcement agency sent the summons after Kejriwal said he would skip the earlier summons sent by the federal agency.
