New BHU V-C: Prof Sudhir K Jain Appointed Vice-Chancellor Of Banaras Hindu University

A Padma Shri Awardee and a professor of Civil Engineering, Jain will be the Vice-Chancellor of BHU for the next three years. 

New Delhi: Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar, Sudhir Kumar Jain has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

According to BHU spokesperson Rajesh Singh, Professor Sudhir Kumar Jain would take charge as the 28th Vice-Chancellor of the university from next week. A letter regarding the appointment was sent to the Banaras Hindu University by the Department of Higher Education.  

The term of the previous Vice-Chancellor ended on March 28 this year. Since then, Prof. V.K. Shukla was holding the post of the acting Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Professor Jain completed his BE degree from the University of Roorkee in 1979. He then completed his MS and PhD from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena in 1980 and 1983 respectively. Before holding the post of the director of IIT Gandhinagar, Professor Jain had worked with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur several times between 1995 and 2008.

He conceptualized and developed the National Information Centre of Earthquake Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur with the objective of dissemination of information, literature and capacity building against earthquake disasters.

A Padma Shri Awardee and a professor of Civil Engineering, Jain will be the Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University for the next three years.
