PM Modi's Spiritual Pilgrimage in Tamil Nadu Ahead of Ayodhya Ram Mandir Inauguration

In a spiritual sojourn preceding the historic consecration of the grand Shri Ram temple at Ayodhya on Monday, PM Narendra Modi embarked on a three-day tour of Tamil Nadu. The Prime Minister's visit culminated with worship at prominent temples with a Ramayana connect, reinforcing the cultural and religious tapestry that underlies the grand event in Uttar Pradesh.

On Sunday, PM Modi undertook a significant visit to Arichalmunai, the southern tip of Tamil Nadu, where he paid homage to the seashore and performed 'pranayama' (breathing exercise). This locale is believed to be associated with the construction of Ram Setu, also known as Adam's Bridge. Offering prayers using seawater, the Prime Minister laid flowers on the beach and paid tribute at a pillar adorned with the national emblem. This visit was part of his broader series of Ramayana-related pilgrimages across the southern states.

Modi's spiritual journey on Saturday had him worshipping at the Sri Ranganathaswamy and Ramanathaswamy temples in Tamil Nadu. In Srirangam, the PM, adorned in traditional attire, listened to the 'Kamba' Ramayana recitation by scholars. He wore a spotless 'veshti' (dhoti) and an angavastram (shawl) as he prayed with folded hands at the Vaishnavite Sri Rangam temple, becoming the first Prime Minister to visit the historic shrine. Blessings in the form of a 'Sadari' (crown symbolising Lord Vishnu's blessings) were conferred upon him by temple priests.

The spiritual journey also saw Modi's visit to the Ramanathaswamy shrine, a Saivite temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Wearing a rudraksha-mala, the PM took a dip in the holy Agni theerth beach and the 22 sacred 'theerths' inside the temple complex. The 22 theerths, natural springs known as 'Nazhi Kinaru' in Tamil, are considered auspicious by devotees.

Earlier, PM Modi had also offered prayers at temples in Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
