'Ram Lalla' Sculptor Arun Yogiraj, Family Denied US Visa By Chennai Consulate

Arun Yogiraj, along with his family, was scheduled to travel to the US for a 20-day trip but the US Embassy officials in Chennai denied the visa without providing any specific reason.

The US Consulate in Chennai has denied a visa to Arun Yogiraj, a celebrated sculptor from Mysuru, Karnataka. Yogiraj, who gained national acclaim for sculpting the Ram Lalla idol for the newly constructed Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, had applied for a visa to attend a series of events in the United States.

Yogiraj, along with his family, was scheduled to travel to the US for a 20-day trip that included a felicitation program organized by the Akka Foundation. He had also planned to participate in various other events across the country. Despite submitting all required documents, including the official invitation, the US Embassy officials in Chennai denied the visa without providing any specific reason, stating only that Yogiraj had not fulfilled the necessary formalities, according to a report on IANS.

In a statement to the media, Yogiraj expressed his surprise and disappointment at the visa denial. He recounted how he and his family traveled to Chennai for the visa interview, only to be informed by consulate officials that his application had been rejected. "I had submitted the invitation card and other documents as required. Our family traveled to Chennai to obtain the visa as per the appointment fixed there The authorities at the US Consulate asked some questions and later informed us that the visa was denied to me and my family, he said, as per the report.

Yogiraj also mentioned the disappointment of his children, who had been excited about the trip, and how he had to console them by promising another journey in the future.

Yogiraj has decided not to reapply for the visa this year, stating that he may consider doing so next year. He expressed regret over missing the opportunity to experience the art and architecture of the US and to connect with fellow artists. However, he added that he is not deeply disheartened by the situation, choosing instead to focus on his future endeavours.

Arun Yogiraj, hailing from a family with a rich legacy of sculpting, is considered one of the most sought-after sculptors in India. After completing his MBA, he briefly worked in the corporate sector but soon chose to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, both of whom were renowned sculptors. Since 2008, Yogiraj has been creating statues that have garnered national recognition.
