Punjab Could Name Halwara Airport After Martyr Kartar Singh, To Send Proposal To Centre Soon

Cabinet minister Warring said naming the Halwara Airport after Sarabha would be the biggest tribute to the martyr who laid down his life for the country at the age of 19. 

New Delhi: The Punjab government is mulling over naming the Halwara International Airport after martyr Kartar Singh Sarabha. State Transport Minister Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday made the announcement and said the Punjab government would soon send a proposal to the Central government in this regard.    

Presiding over a state-level event organised to commemorate the 106th martyrdom day of Kartar Singh Sarabha at his ancestral village, Cabinet minister Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said naming the Halwara International Airport after Sarabha would be the biggest tribute to the martyr who laid down his life for the country at the age of 19.

On the proposal of Congress leader Captain Sandeep Singh Sandhu, the minister assured that Dhaka's new bus stand would also be named after martyr Kartar Singh and the proposal in this regard would be taken up in the state cabinet meeting. Also, the daily bus service of Punjab Roadways will run directly from Ludhiana to Kartar Singh's village Sarabha, announced Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.

He announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh for the development of the martyr's native  village from his discretionary funds.

The Punjab Transport Minister further said that he will try to follow the footsteps of the country's greatest martyrs and will always be indebted to them for their supreme sacrifice. Cabinet Minister Raja Warring also felicitated Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Sports Club during the event.
