Porsche Case: Panel Finds 'Glaring Lapses' In Bail To Teen Accused, Show-Cause Notices Sent To 2 JJB Members

Pune Porsche Crash Case: An investigative committee found procedural lapses and misconduct in the granting of bail to the minor accused by two JJB members, leading to show-cause notices issued by the WCD department.

Pune Porsche Crash Case: A committee formed to investigate the conduct of two Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) members regarding the bail granted to the minor accused in the Pune Porsche crash case has identified significant procedural lapses, misconduct, and non-compliance with norms, a senior official stated on Saturday. The five-member investigative committee presented its findings on Friday to the Women and Child Development (WCD) department commissioner.

Following the receipt of the report, the WCD department issued notices to the two implicated JJB members, who were appointed by the department. The senior official, requesting anonymity, disclosed this information to news agency PTI.

On May 19, two IT professionals lost their lives in Kalyani Nagar after their motorcycle was struck by a speeding Porsche car, allegedly driven by a minor under the influence of alcohol. The case drew nationwide attention when the JJB granted bail to the accused on notably lenient terms, which included writing a 300-word essay on road safety.

Pune Porsche Crash Case: Show-Cause Notices Issued To JJB Members

"The report has identified glaring lapses and errors in the issuance of the bail order by a single JJB member on May 19. Although the bail order was initially issued by one member, the second member gave their consent the following day. Misconduct and non-compliance with norms were evident in the actions of both members, and they have been duly informed," the official remarked, as quoted by PTI's report.

In the course of its investigation, the WCD-appointed committee recorded statements from both JJB members. The JJB consists of two members appointed by the WCD department and one judiciary member. The committee's focus was on the state-appointed members, the official clarified, as per the report.

WCD commissioner Dr Prashant Narnavare confirmed the submission of the report by the probe committee. "Show cause notices have been issued to both JJB members," he stated, adding that, "The two members have been asked to furnish their replies within the next four to five days."
