Mumbai: 2 Dead, 1 Critical After Inhaling Toxic Gas From Fishing Boat's Storage Chamber

Mumbai news: Two died and one battles for life after inhaling toxic gas aboard a fishing boat.

Two individuals lost their lives, and another is in critical condition after inhaling toxic gas accumulated in a storage chamber aboard the fishing boat Anjani Putra at the New Fish Jetty on Tuesday. The boat, which had returned to the coast around 2 am, became a scene of tragedy when workers were removing fish at approximately 11 am. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Latkar revealed that it is suspected the gas was generated due to the decomposition of fish, news agency PTI reported.

"A worker who climbed down into a storage chamber passed out. Five others who followed him inside also fell unconscious, and all of them were rushed to the government-run J J Hospital," he said, as per PTI.

Sriniwas Anand Yadav (35) and boat owner Naga Don Sanjay (27), both hailing from Andhra Pradesh, succumbed to the gas exposure during treatment. Suresh Mekla, also from Andhra Pradesh, is currently on a ventilator, while the condition of the remaining three is reported as stable, PTI reported.

Mumbai Police have registered an accidental death case at Yellow Gate police station, and a comprehensive investigation is underway, as confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

This tragic incident comes on the heels of another gas-related mishap in Vadodara, Gujarat.
