Aaditya Thackeray Wins See-Saw Contest In Worli, Leaves Milind Deora Biting The Dust
In a Sena vs Sena contest in Mumbai's Worli assembly seat, Uddhav Thackeray's Aaditya Thackeray defeated Milind Deora of the Shinde faction, securing the seat for the Thackeray-led Sena.
Mumbai's Worli assembly seat saw a Sena vs Sena showdown with both the factions fielding stalwarts. While Aaditya Thackeray from the Uddhav camp entered the fray to lay claim to the seat once again, Milind Deora from the Shinde faction came to give a fight.
However, after a see-saw contest, Thackeray clinched the seat once again leaving Deora biting the dust.
A total of 10 candidates were in the fray from the Worli assembly constituency. Apart from Thackeray and Deora, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) fielded Sandeep Sudhakar Deshpande and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) named Suresh Kumar Mishrilal Gautam as its candidate.
As per the Election Commission of India, the constituency saw a voter turnout of 53.53 per cent.
Worli had 2,69,003 voters during the 2019 assembly polls including 1,49,594 male voters and 1,19,407 female voters.
The seat has been a stronghold of the undivided Shiv Sena from 1990 to 2014. In 2004, Sachin Ahir of the then undivided Nationalist Congress Party won the seat.
Aaditya Thackeray had won the seat in 2019 as part of the undivided Shiv Sena.
The counting of votes for the elections to the 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly began at 8 am on Friday. The voting took place on November 20 across the state in a single phase.
As the counting began, Mahayuti raced forward in the early trends and according to the trends by the Election Commission of India, is emerging as the single largest party. However, the trends also show that no party is able to cross the halfway mark on its own.
With trends skewing heavily in favour of the Mahayuti, discussion and deliberations have started in the camp over the next course of action. The alliance, comprising Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party will hold a meeting on Sunday to elect legislative assembly leader and is likely to stake claim to form government on Monday.
