'What Has PM Modi Done For OBCs': Rahul Gandhi In Maharashtra Doubles Down On Caste Census Pitch

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stressed that his party would conduct a caste census after attaining power calling it important for the future of the country.

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said loans of farmers will be waived if his party comes to power at the Centre. Addressing a rally in Sakoli, Maharashtra's Bhandara district, Rahul highlighted unemployment and inflation as major concerns overlooked by the media. Promising to waive farmers' loans if the Congress assumes power, he criticised the NDA government, citing the inequity in GST payments between low and high earners. Gandhi also pledged to conduct a caste census calling it important for the future of the country.

Congress scion further slammed the Centre's Agnipath programme, in which soldiers called 'Agniveers' are recruited for four years. "It would be scrapped since the Army was not in its favour", PTI quoted Rahul as saying.

Rahul Gandhi On Push For Caste Census

Rahul doubled down on his push for caste census and said, "The prime minister, who calls himself an OBC, must tell the country what he has done for the segment in his 10-year rule. The Union government is working for a few industrialists, while common people are getting nothing".

He stressed that the community was not adequately represented in any field.

"Just 22 persons have wealth equivalent to that held by 50 per cent of the country's population. But Modi only keeps talking about religion and tries to create enmity among castes and communities", Gandhi further alleged.

Rahul Gandhi also alleged a surge in share prices of companies owned by Gautam Adani during Modi's ten-year tenure, accusing the billionaire of expanding his influence across various sectors, including airports, ports, roads, bridges, coal mines, and power plants.

Criticising Modi government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, "While people were seeking medical help during the COVID-19 pandemic, Modi was asking them to beat thalis and flash mobile phone torches", Gandhi said.

Sakoli falls within the Bhandara-Gondiya Lok Sabha constituency, where the Congress has nominated Dr. Prashant Padole as its candidate.
