After Walking Out Of Jail, Will Hemant Soren Return As Jharkhand CM? Here's What JMM Leader Says

Hemant Soren, former Jharkhand CM, has got bail, raising the possibility of his return to office. However, his return is uncertain amidst BJP's dominance and looming assembly elections in December.

Will Hemant Soren be reinstalled on the Jharkhand Chief Minister's chair? The question has come up in the wake of the former Jharkhand Chief Minister getting bail relief from the Jharkhand High Court. While Soren's friends and allies are happy with the court's order, his return to the CM's chair just before the assembly elections may not be easy, especially since the BJP seems to be the dominant party in the state at present with eight Lok Sabha seats.

Hemant Soren had resigned as the CM of Jharkhand just minutes before his arrest by the ED in land scam case.

JMM's Rajya Sabha MP Mahua Maji said Hemant Soren's return to the CM's chair will be decided in the party meeting. At present, party workers and the people of the state are happy with the court's decision.

Talking to ABP News, Mahua Maji said, "The party will take a decision on this. I cannot take the decision. I will support the decision taken by the party." Mahua said, "There is a wave of happiness among our workers and the people of Jharkhand due to the imminent release of Hemantji.

"The land scam case was filed against him as part of a conspiracy. The land can neither be bought nor sold. So they said that there was an attempt to occupy the plots," she said.

Assembly Elections In Jharkhand

Assembly elections are due in the state in a few months. During the Lok Sabha elections, Hemant was in jail but he was keeping an eye on the state's activities. After the results were announced, his wife Kalpana Soren and Champai Soren went to jail and met him and discussed the election results.

At the same time, Kalpana tried to instil confidence in the JMM cadre on behalf of her husband. She even won the byelection from the Gandey assembly seat. Being a big name within the party, supporters may want to see her on the CM's chair again, but that may not be possible.

Elections will be held in Jharkhand in November-December this year and its notification is likely to be issued a month earlier. So even if Soren is made the CM, it would be only for three months before the JMM seeks a majority again.

Thus, Soren is likely to focus on preparations for the elections to boost the cadre's morale. Removing Champai Soren without any reason and becoming the CM will send the wrong message to the public.
