A massive fire broke out on Humsafar Express, which runs between Tiruchirappalli and Shri Ganganagar, in Gujarat's Valsad.

A massive fire broke out on Humsafar Express on Saturday in Gujarat's Valsad. No casualties have been reported on board the train, which runs between Tiruchirappalli and Shri Ganganagar, news agency ANI reported. According to a railway official, fire and smoke were noticed in a coach while passing Valsad, following which all passengers of the adjacent coach were deboarded safely and the affected coach was detached for the train to depart.

"Fire and smoke were noticed in power car/brake van coach of train number 22498 Tiruchchirappalli Junction to Shri Ganganagar Junction while passing Valsad. All passengers of the adjacent coach were deboarded safely. No casualty was reported. After detaching the coach from this train, it will depart shortly," Sumit Thakur, CPRO, Western Railway stated, as per ANI.

The incident is a grim reminder of a tragic train fire that took place at the Madurai railway station in Tamil Nadu.

In August, at least eight persons died in a fire that broke out inside a stationary train compartment in Madurai railway station and the Southern Railway stated that an 'illegal gas cylinder' caused the blaze. The passengers of the 'private party coach' were from Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow.

Police, fire, rescue services personnel and railway staff were involved in dousing the fire and extricated the charred bodies from the compartment. The fire broke out at 5.15 am on August 26 and the Fire service personnel who arrived at the spot half an hour later put down the blaze by 7.15 am, a Southern Railway release stated.

Meanwhile, more details about the fire on Humsafar Express is awaited.
