Woman Dies By Electrocution On Waterlogged Delhi Street
DCP (northeast) Joy Tirkey said a live wire from an electricity pole near the footpath caused Poonam to get electrocuted. She is survived by a 14-year-old special-needs son, among others.
A woman died by electrocution when she stepped in rainwater pooled at a roadside in northeast Delhi's Bhajanpura on Saturday. According to PTI, the incident took place in the C Block area of Yamuna Vihar near Moral Hospital around 7.40 am.
Poonam, 34, was on her way to the market when she stepped into some water pooled in the area after Friday's rains, and was electrocuted. Upon seeing the woman getting electrocuted, the Moral Hospital guard rushed in and put on rubber boots and pulled the woman out, but it was too late.
According to The Times Of India, Poonam’s 14-year-old son, a child with special needs, had been hospitalised for the past 15 days. A relative told the news outlet that the child’s condition worsened upon learning about his mother’s sudden demise. He was taken to another hospital and is said to be in critical condition.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said a live wire from an electricity pole near the footpath caused Poonam to get electrocuted. She was rushed to Moral Hospital where she was declared dead.
Poonam was a homemaker and her husband ran a general store in the locality, PTI reported.
A case of death by negligence has been filed against unknown persons, the DCP said.
