US Open 2021: Novak Djokovic Drops 2nd Set, But Wins 1st Round In His Calendar Grand Slam Quest

US Open 2021: Djokovic wins the first round at his quest to be the best!

Novak Djokovic, the star Serbian tennis player has won his first match in the US Open against a Danish player, Holger Rune. Djokovic is playing this competition to win the Calendar Grand Slam of 2021. He has already won all three grand slams this year.

There was a minor hiccup in the first round that Novak Djokovic played against Rune. The Danish teenager took the second set and shocked everyone at the arena. Djokovic won the match 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-1. The crowd cheered the second set win by the Danish, but the joy was short-lived as Novak demolished the youngster in the next two sets. Nonetheless, it would have been a great learning curve for Rume. After the match, he said, “I have a lot of belief in myself even though I’m up against the World No. 1.”

Rune, in fact got injured during the third set and never really recovered.

"Credit to him (Holger Rune) for fighting. He had the crowd behind him. It was tough to play in my first match, even though I had tonnes of experience playing on this court, for him it was the first one," Djokovic said after the match to ATP.
