Tokyo Paralympics: Sumit Antil Sets New World Record, Wins Gold Medal In Javelin Throw F64 Event

Sumit Antil Wins Gold: India's Sumit Antil went big in his final and fifth attempt to shatter his own world record with a throw of 68.55 m.

New Delhi: India's Sumit Antil wins gold medal in Men's javelin throw (F64) event with a world record throw of 68.55 mm at the National stadium in Tokyo on Monday. The star para-athlete improved the world record three times in the Men's javelin throw final. Sumit threw a monstrous throw of 68.55 mm in his final and fifth attempt to clinch the gold medal and finish at the top of the podium to secure a second gold medal for India.

In his very first attempt, Sumit, who went first in the field, went for 66.95 m to break his own previous world record (62.88 m) and later after other three great attempts of 68.08 m (2nd attempt), 65.27 m (3rd attempt) and 66.71 m (4th attempt), he went big in his final and fifth attempt to shatter his own world record with a throw of 68.55 m.

Devendra Jhajharia - Silver medal 
Sundar Singh - Bronze medal  

Earlier in the day, in the men's Standing Javelin (F46), javelin throwers  Sundar Singh Gurjar and Devendra Jhajharia won bronze and silver medal respectively. With a personal best throw of 64.35m, Devendra Jhajharia secured a silver medal. This was also his third medal at Paralympic Games. Meanwhile, with a season-best throw of 62.58m, Sundar won the bronze medal 

Earlier in the day, 19-year old Avani Lekhara had become the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at Paralympic Games. She won a gold in women's 10m AR Standing SH1 Final. This is India's first medal in shooting this year.
