Taipei Open 2022: India made a positive start to Taipei Open 2022 as Parupalli Kashyap, Mithun Manjunath, and Kiran George advance to Round 2 of the Men’s Singles event after their comprehensive Round 1 victory. Another Indian player, Priyanshu Rajawat, also made it to Round 2 as India has made a 100% progress rate for now in the Men's Singles event.

World Number 3, Parupalli Kashyap saw off the challenge from Chi Yu Jen as the Indian won in straight sets 24-22, 21-10 over the Chinese Taipei player.

Kiran George also made a winning start as he came over the tough challenge posed by the Azerbaijan player, Ade Resky Dwicahyo by defeating him 23-21, 21-17.

Mithun Manjunath carried his good form by defeating Kim Bruun of Denmark 21-17, 21-15.

Priyanshu Rajawat knocked the home favourite out of the tournament as he won 21-16, 21-15 against Yu Sheng Po of Chinese Taipei.

The start in Men’s Singles Event looks promising as all 4 players who have progressed to Round 2 and are yet to drop a set.

In the Men’s Singles event, Chirag Sen will be next in action on Wednesday as he takes on Lin Chin-Yi, and Subhankar Dey will be taking on the Malaysian Leong Jun Hao.

However, India endured a torrid start in the Women’s Singles event as Smit Toshniwal and Malvika Bansod crashed out of the tournament in Round 1.

Smit lost her match to World Number 8 Pai Yu Po as the Chinese Taipei player made light work out of the Indian by winning 21-10, 21-16.

Malvika lost her match to Lainng Tun Yu 21-10, 15-21, 14-21. The Indian, in spite of winning the first set, couldn’t capitalise on the momentum as the Chinese Taipei player made a brilliant comeback to advance further in the Women’s Singles event.

Up next for India in Women’s Singles will be Samiya Imad Farooqui, who will be taking on Malaysian Kisona Selvaduray, Priya Kudura Valli, who will be taking on Japanese Natsuki Nidaira, and Tanya Hemanth will be in action against Malaysian Goh Jin Wei.
