Take Inspiration From IND vs AUS 2001 Series: PM Modi Tells Students At Pariksha Pe Charcha 2020
During his speech at the event, the prime minister shared cricket anecdotes with students, talking about how the Indian team played against the tide and won the India-Australia Test series in 2001
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday interacted with students, teachers, and parents during his 'Pariksha Pe Charcha 2020' programme. During his speech at the event, the prime minister shared cricket anecdotes with students, talking about how the Indian team played against the tide and won the India-Australia Test series in 2001.
"Remember India-Australia Test series in 2001? Our team was facing setbacks and the mood wasn't great. But, we can never forget how Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman turned the match around. This is power of positive thinking & motivation," PM Modi said.
The famous 2001 Test series against India was no less than a roller coaster ride for the mighty Aussies. Under the leadership of Steve Waugh, they won the first Test in Mumbai in just three days. Credit to Gilchrist’s fiery 80-ball ton that sailed the Australians to victory. But what happened in the rest of the series remains a nightmare for the visitors.
Do you remember the India-Australia test series in 2001?
Our cricket team was facing setbacks. The mood was not very good. But, in those moments can we ever forget what Rahul Dravid and @VVSLaxman281 did. They turned the match around: PM @narendramodi #ParikshaPeCharcha2020 — PMO India (@PMOIndia) January 20, 2020
Post that loss, the Indian men made a terrific comeback in the next two matches and not only Australia, but the entire world also witnessed the miracle through naked eyes. In the final Test, while Laxman and Rahul Dravid produced a match-winning 376-run stand after India followed on against Australia, Harabhajan and Tendulkar came up with stellar bowling performances. Harbhajan even picked up 32 wickets in three matches, including the first-ever Test hat-trick for India in Kolkata and was adjudged the Man of the Series. India eventually went on to win the Test match by 171 runs and later the series 2-1.Similarly, who can forget @anilkumble1074 bowling with an injury.
