As India witnesses an alarming rise in the number of COVID-19 cases and the death toll also climbing up at a rapid pace in the last fortnight, the spirit of the citizens from all walks of life hasn't been deterred one bit to fight the pandemic on a war footing. In yet another heart warming and noble example of a sportsperson leading from the front in helping out the poor and distressed people amid testing times, India cricketer Mohammad Shami made a notable contribution by extending help with basic essentials to the migrants who are trying to reach their homes. Shami who is currently at his home amid the COVID-19 induced forced break, has set up food distribution centres near his house in Sahaspur, near Bijnor city in Uttar Pradesh where he is providing meals to people. He has also been spotted distributing masks and food packets on National Highway No. 24 in the state. He has also set up food distribution centres near his house in Sahaspur," BCCI said in a tweet on Tuesday along with a 42-second video. "We are in this together," it added.

Various former and current players of the Indian cricket team, along with the BCCI, have already made contributions towards the Prime Ministers Citizens Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES Fund) and state relief funds set up for fight against COVID-19.
