Roland Garros 2024: Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner keeps on adding feathers to his cap in the calendar year of 2024, as the young sensation has scripted history by becoming the first-ever number 1 player from the country. The world number 2 player has now jumped up the ranks and overtakes the 'G.O.A.T. from Serbia' Novak Djokovic as the new number 1 tennis player of the world.
This came as a result in the aftermath of Jannik Sinner's impressive straight-sets win over world number 10 Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter finals of the Roland Garros 2024, and has now advanced to the semis of the tournament, where he faces either of Carlos Alcaraz or Stefano Tsitsipas.
2024 has been a historic year for the Italian, as he won the Australia Open 2024, and stands a very good chance of getting his hands on his very first French Open Grand Slam title.
Here's What Jannik Sinner Said In Post-Match On-Court Interview
"First of all, it's the dream of all players to become world number one one day. But on the other hand, it's hard to see Novak withdraw from the tournament, I wish him a good recovery. I enjoy this semi-final and this world No. 1 place. Thank you to my team for making this possible and thank you to you too. It's a very special moment for me and I am very happy to share this all with you guys."
"I'm very happy. We've played a few times before, the final in Miami, and we know what to expect. It's always tough against him. I was very solid in the first two sets. I had a little issue when serving for the match, but this is tennis, this is normal, and I'm very happy I reacted later and very happy to be in the semis."
"I can go to the restaurant and watch it there. I like to relax, I like to watch tennis – so hopefully it's a great match, I'm quite sure it will be. Then I have a couple of days to prepare in the best possible ways for the semis. I'm looking forward to it and it will be a huge pleasure to step onto this court again."
"This is a tournament I have struggled at in the past, especially the last couple of years, I will make sure I enjoy this. I will try to play the best tennis that I can."
