It's Not Easy Being Neeraj Chopra! From Training To Diet, Know What It Takes To Be A Javelin Thrower

Javelin throwing practice is done for only three days a week. The rest of the week is spent on exercising, as it is equally important as practice.

Panchkula: Neeraj Chopra has created history by winning gold in the Javelin Throw event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. But do you know how hard a player has to tain for this sport? How does he prepare for this? What are the nuances of this sport?

All these questions have been answered by coach Naseem Ahmed. In a discussion with ABP News, Ahmed said that Javelin Throw is a part of track and field events. Hammer Throw, Javelin Throw and Discus Throw are all a part of this.

What are the different kinds of Javelins?

There are three different types of Javelins, weighing 600 gms, 700 gms and 800 gms.  

A player has to first complete training for javelin throw. The length of their arm plays an important role. A player first has to first undergo strength training, which includes gym workout and exercising. There are three kinds of throws, paging throw, standing throw, and runway throw. The ground for javelin throw needs to be grassy as the javelin might break in 7-8 throws if it is dry.

What about the diet?

The player has to take special care of his diet, including consumption of high amount of protein. Choosing a Vegetarian or Non-Vegetarian diet depends on the player. A balanced diet comprising of Proteins, Vitamins and Carbohydrates has to be consumed.

Javelin throwing practice is done for only three days a week. The rest of the week is spent on exercising, as it is equally important as practice. This includes exercising the core. Gym workout is essential on the very next day of Javelin Throw practice. Each muscle has to be taken care of on a daily basis Player has to work on every muscle in his body so that he can give his 100 percent while throwing a javelin.

Coach Naseem Ahmed said it is not easy be a javelin thrower., as the sport is highly technical in nature. It requires proper equipment and proper ground. He says that the state of Haryana has a lot of talent and that all parents should encourage their childred to learn the sport of Javelin Throwing. He has appealed to the Government to show more support for the sport by providing effective medical and infrastructure facilities.
