Will Ajinkya Rahane Captain KKR In IPL 2025? CEO Venky Mysore Breaks Silence

With Shreyas Iyer no longer part of the squad, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face a key decision on who will captain the defending champions in IPL 2025 season.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO Venky Mysore has shared his perspective on possibility of Ajinkya Rahane leading the team in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

With Shreyas Iyer no longer part of the squad, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face a key decision on who will captain the defending champions. Rahane, acquired at a base price of Rs 1.75 crore during IPL 2025 mega auction, is among the potential candidates.

Rahane, a seasoned cricketer, had a modest performance for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2022 season, scoring 133 runs at an average of 19 and a strike rate of 103.90, with his best being 44 runs. Addressing the captaincy question, Mysore said that KKR’s think tank will thoroughly evaluate all options before making a decision.

"Well, you know that. To be honest, we have to sit down and take stock. Sometimes what happens is, after you've done all of these things, you just have to sit down, reflect, look at the whole thing. There are stakeholders and parts of the think tank won't be here. So we'll all sit down and have a proper chat about that, and I'm sure a proper decision will be made," Mysore told the broadcasters.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) strengthened their squad by adding fast bowlers Spencer Johnson, Anrich Nortje, Umran Malik, and Vaibhav Arora in IPL 2025 Auction. Among the overseas signings, KKR acquired Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Quinton de Kock, Rovman Powell, and Moeen Ali.

Expressing his satisfaction with the team's picks, KKR CEO Venky Mysore: "I am very, very happy. I think auctions are always up and down and nerve wracking. But I think the whole team did an amazing job of sticking to the plan. That's the trick, I always feel. But in the end, the way we completed the squad and checked all the boxes that we wanted to, I am extremely happy."
