Was Absent From IPL Commentary Due To 'Stupid Conflict Of Interest Clause': Ravi Shastri

IPL 2022: Suresh Raina, who went unsold at the IPL Auction 2022 will also be a part of the elite commentary panel of Star Sports along with Shastri for the upcoming edition of IPL.

Ravi Shastri, the voice behind some of India's iconic cricketing moments is back again in the commentary box. He is part of the elite commentary panel for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). 

He was away from commentary as he was the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He was away from IPL commentary too due to a 'conflict of interest clause' by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Shastri explained his reasons for being away from commentary on Tuesday.

"This is the 15th edition of the IPL, I did the first 11 years and then thanks to some stupid conflict of interest clause that exists in some stupid constitution that binds us, you could not do the last few seasons," he said in a press conference organised by Star Sports.

Ravi Shastri will be seen doing commentary in Hindi for the first time in IPL. Reports suggested that the veteran, who mostly does commentary in English, has done commentary rehearsals in Hindi to get a better command of the language.

Suresh Raina, who went unsold at the IPL Auction 2022 will also be a part of the elite commentary panel of Star Sports along with Shastri for the upcoming edition of IPL.

Talking about Suresh Raina, Shastri said: "You call him Mr. IPL, I could not disagree. He lit up the IPL, to play consecutive seasons for a team without missing a match is a real big compliment in itself. He is one of the highest scorers in the history of the competition."

He also said that IPL-15 is an opportunity to unearth a "solid" future captain for the Indian cricket team. "Virat is not the captain anymore, but Rohit has also been outstanding, especially in white ball. India will be looking at who will be captaining the team (in future) -- there is Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul," said Shastri during the [ress conference.
