‘Umpire Bhi Paise Le Raha’: Sehwag Reacts After Ishan Kishan’s Strange Dismissal In SRH vs MI Match

Ishan Kishan’s bizarre walk-off without any appeal during MI vs SRH IPL 2025 clash left fans and experts stunned, with Sehwag calling it a clear case of “brain fade.”

Ishan Kishan left fans and the cricketing world puzzled with a strange turn of events during the IPL 2025 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 23 (Thursday) in Hyderabad. Kishan’s rough patch with the bat continued as he was dismissed for just one run against his name. However, it was the manner of his dismissal that stirred controversy, as the left-hander walked off despite there being no appeal from the fielding side.

The incident unfolded on the very first ball of the third over in Hyderabad’s innings. Ishan Kishan attempted to glance a leg-side length delivery from Deepak Chahar but failed to connect properly. Strangely, he walked off without any appeal from the Mumbai Indians players. Umpire Vinod Seshan was about to signal a wide when he noticed Kishan walking off, prompting him to instead raise his finger and declare him out.

Replays confirmed that neither his bat nor any part of his body had made contact with the ball, leaving fans and experts confused over why he chose to give up his wicket without even waiting for a clear signal from the umpire.

'Umpire Bhi Paise Le Rahe Hai': Sehwag

Kishan’s decision to walk off sparked widespread confusion, particularly given his current rough patch with the bat and his team’s ongoing struggles in the tournament. Many questioned why he would voluntarily depart at such a critical juncture.

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag called Kishan’s dismissal a clear case of "brain fade," saying he should have at least waited for the umpire’s decision instead of walking off unnecessarily.

“Many times, the mind fails to work at that moment. It was brain fade. Ruk toh jaa. Umpire bhi paise le rahe hai (Stop at least and wait for the umpire to make his decision. He is also charging some amount of money for his job)," Sehwag said while speaking on Cricbuzz.
