Rajasthan Royals Team Director Reacts To Sanju Samson's Controversial Dismissal In DC vs RR IPL 2024 Match

Rajasthan Royals (RR) team director Kumar Sangakkara has shared his views on captain Sanju Samson's controversial dismissal in Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR) IPL 2024 match 56 at New Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday (May 7).

Sanju Samson's controversial decision - all you need to know

In a crucial moment, Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson's fiery innings was cut short when he was caught by Shai Hope while batting on 84. After Samson was adjudged out by the on-field umpire, the side angle replay raised doubts as it showed Hope's foot almost touching the boundary rope. Amid all the speculations and uncertainty, the TV umpire ruled Samson out due to the lack of conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field decision of 'caught out'.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) dugout and captain Sanju Samson weren't pleased with the final decision. But RR team director Sangakkara believes one has to accept the decision of the umpire.

"It depends on replays and angles. Sometimes, you think the foot has touched. It was a difficult one for the third umpire to judge; the game was at a crucial stage, but it happened," Sangakkara said in the post-match press conference.

"We have different perspectives, but at the end of the day, you have to stand by the decision the third umpire has made, even if we have a different opinion on it."

Sangakkara said Rajasthan Royals (RR) will share those footages with umpires to seek more clarity.

"Of course, we will share it with the umpires, but I thought, irrespective of that, we should've seen the game home. Delhi played well. They were really smart with their bowling in the backend," he added.

Sangakkara said the umpires and players are both under pressure.

"Just asking what the procedure was and whether there was any doubt. The on-field umpire will have to go by what the TV umpire says. Players have to abide by it," Sangakkara said.

"And there are means of conveying your opinion through direct conversation or the umpire's report. We follow protocol; there is a lot of pressure on players and umpires. We try to sort it in the best way we can."
