Harry Brook Could Be Banned From IPL For Two Years

Delhi Capitals (DC) secured Harry Brook for Rs 6.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

With Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 set to begin on March 22, Delhi Capitals (DC) has been dealt a setback. England's star batter Harry Brook has pulled out of the tournament, marking his second consecutive IPL withdrawal.

This decision, however, could have serious consequences for Brook. Under the new IPL regulations, a player who withdraws after being bought in the auction may face a two-year ban from the tournament.

Delhi Capitals signed Brook for Rs 6.25 crore

Delhi Capitals (DC) secured Harry Brook for Rs 6.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, with his withdrawal, Delhi now faces the challenge of finding a suitable replacement. Reports indicate that if IPL authorities enforce the new rules, Brook could be barred from IPL participation for two seasons.

Brook's apology & social media statement

On March 9, Harry Brook took to social media to announce his decision, apologizing to Delhi Capitals and their fans. He described it as a difficult choice but emphasized his commitment to prioritizing his England career at this stage.

Brook last played in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023, before pulling out of IPL 2024 due to personal reasons.

"I have made the very difficult decision to pull out of the upcoming IPL. I apologize unreservedly to the Delhi Capitals and their supporters," Brook wrote on social media.

"It is a really important time for England cricket and I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series.

"In order to do this, I need time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date. I know not everyone will understand, and I don't expect them to, but I have to do what I believe is right and playing for my country remains my priority and focus."

IPL's new rule on player withdrawals

To prevent players from withdrawing after being picked in the auction, IPL has introduced a strict rule: If a player registers for the auction, gets bought by a franchise, and then withdraws before the season starts, he may face a two-year suspension from both the IPL and future auctions.
