'A Break Is Ideal, Pull Out Of The IPL': Ravi Shastri's Advice For Virat Kohli After String Of Low Scores
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Kohli has managed to score 128 runs at an average of 16. The string of low scores in IPL 2022 also includes two back-to-back golden ducks.
New Delhi: In IPL 2022 tournament, former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli is going through a lean performance phase. In the nine IPL innings played this season, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman Kohli has managed to score 128 runs at an average of 16. The string of low scores in IPL 2022 also includes two back-to-back golden ducks.
Commenting on his recent bad performance in IPL, former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri has suggested that right-handed batsman needs to take a break from the T20 tournament and "draw the balance".
Shastri on Jatin Sapru's YouTube channel said "a break is ideal for him (Virat Kohli) because he has played non-stop cricket and he has captained the side across all formats. It will be wise of him to take a break."
"You know, sometimes you have to draw the balance. This year he is already into the tournament (IPL 2022), tomorrow if push comes to shove and you want to prolong your international career and make a mark there for 6-7 years, pull out of the IPL, for all you care," he said.
Not just IPL, Kohli for India has also not remained in great form recently. The three-figure mark has eluded him as his last international ton came way back in 2019 against Bangladesh in a day-night Test match.
Shastri mentioned that Virat Kohli still has plenty of international cricket left in him and this bad patch should push him back to the drawing board.
"Virat is still young and he has the best 5-6 years ahead of him. He would have realised what he has gone through in these last few months. He knows he has to go back to the drawing board, how he thinks, how he approaches and he has to literally start from scratch," said Shastri.
