BCCI Mulls On Prospect Of Hosting IPL Matches In Empty Stadiums Amid Coronavirus Scare

IPL's primary source of revenue is generated from the television sponsors and the franchise teams also make most of their revenue from the sponsors logo placed on the T shirt and trouser of the cricketers.

New Delhi: Will there be IPL matches held in empty stadiums ? The answer could be yes amid the threat of the spread of coronavirus . BCCI is even mulling on the prospect of hosting IPL matches in empty stadiums.
IPL's primary source of revenue is generated from the television sponsors and the franchise teams also make most of their revenue from the sponsors logo placed on the T shirt and trouser of the cricketers. Television viewers also outnumber the spectators who watch the match in the stadiums .
Now , if the matches are organised without any crowd in the stadium then BCCI don't have to bother about the public gathering . Secondly , franchise teams still don't earn the maximum chunk out of their gate sales , it is the brands which is placed on their T shirts etc give them a better earning.
In this scenario the Cricket Board could well go with the decision of hosting the matches in empty stands. Earlier Maharashtra Government had indicated that they won't allow the sale of tickets.
BCCI could agree with the proposal of hosting the matches in empty stands if the situation demands so . A call can be taken in the IPL Governing council meeting slated to be held in Mumbai on 14th . All top BCCI officials will be present in the meeting and following discussion there is possibility of an announcement that day itself .
