Not A Fan Of Faf Du Plessis, Didn't See Anything Special In His Captaincy: Shoaib Akhtar
After Virat Kohli stepped down, the captaincy of Royal Challengers Bangalore was handed over to Faf du Plessis, who had played a crucial role in making Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL 2021 winners.
New Delhi: Former Pakistan fast-bowler Shoaib Akhtar made a controversial statement on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis. Akhtar, in a YouTube video for Sportskeeda, said that he's not a fan of Du Plessis's captaincy and that it is difficult to say how far Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will go under the captaincy of South African veteran.
Virat Kohli stepped down as RCB skipper ahead of this year's IPL. After this, the captaincy of the franchise was handed over to Faf du Plessis, who had played a crucial role in making Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL 2021 winners.
Akhtar said, "Virat has given up the captaincy and Du Plessis is now the captain of the team. So he will captain in his own way. I am not a big fan of du Plessis as I haven't seen anything special under his captaincy."
Terming Virat as an unlucky captain, Akhtar said Kohli's successor has a lot to prove.
He said,"Virat has been a very unfortunate captain. For both India and RCB, he gave his best but it didn't work out. After this, Faf now has a lot to prove. Often he is not that sharp during his captaincy. He has been given the responsibility of captaining a huge franchise, so let's see if he will be able to change its fortunes."
"Du Plessis has played cricket for Chennai Super Kings for a very long time. They have a deep understanding of how things work. However, I don't know how far Faf can go from here. If he does, salute to him, but I have concerns."
Du Plessis remained at the second position in the list of highest run-scorers in IPL 2021. He scored 633 runs in 16 matches with a batting average of 45.21 with an impressive strike rate of 138.20.
