Kiwi Batsman, Unsold At IPL Auction 2021, Blasts 59-Ball 99*; Gets Trolled By R Ashwin
India senior spinner R Ashwin was quick to point out that the quality batsman was "just 4 days late" to show his true potential as this year's IPL Auction is already over.
Indian cricket team's veteran off-spinner R Ashwin once again showed his funny side as he took a comic jibe at New Zealand's Devon Conway after the sensational batsman played a fiery knock in the first match of the T20 series against Australia.
At a time when New Zealand were reduced to 19/3 in the initial stage of their innings, Conway unleashed wrath at the Aussie bowlers and smacked them all over the stadium to make unbeaten 88 off just 59 balls.
Devon's blistering knock powered New Zealand to a respectable total of 184/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Meanwhile, R Ashwin was quick to point out that the quality batsman was "just 4 days late" to show his true potential as this year's IPL Auction is already over.
The 29-year-old who had registered for IPL 14 auction with a base price of INR 50 Lakhs, remained unsold this year.
"Devon Conway is just 4 days late, but what a knock," Ashwin tweeted.
After winning the toss, New Zealand opted to bat first and scored 184 runs for five wickets. In response to the mammoth total, Australia was completely dominated by NZ bowlers as they ripped through their batting order.
Leg-spinner Ish Sodhi was the pick of bowlers as he took four wickets. Australia managed to score just 131 in 17.3 overs and lost the game by 53 runs.
