'We Cannot Get Him Out Like That': Rohit Sharma Reacts To Mohammed Shami 'Mankading' Dasun Shanaka In 1st ODI

Had India appealed, the decision would have gone upstairs to the third umpire for a review and Shami would have 'mankaded' Shanaka to get a controversial anticlimactic ending.

India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Highlights: A massive controversy almost erupted during India vs Sri Lanka 1st One-Day-International at Guwahati's Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Tuesday. The incident took place in the last over of the match when senior speedster Mohammed Shami removed bails at non-strikers' end to run-out Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka  when he was batting on 98. Had India appealed, the decision would have gone upstairs to the third umpire for a review and Shami would have 'mankaded' Shanaka to get a controversial anticlimactic ending, but the appeal was taken back after Rohit Sharma's intervention. Thereafter, Shanaka (108*) hammered a blistering four to attain a hard-fought hundred off 87 balls.

In the post-match presentation ceremony, Rohit Sharma said,"We cannot get him out like that".

"Pretty impressed actually. We started off well with the bat, it was a great effort from all batters. The platform was set for all the batters, I thought we could have bowled better. Don't want to be too critical, as the conditions were not easy. It wasn't easy to bowl under the lights especially when dew comes in. Everyone needs to come to the party if you want to win, but we bowled well upfront.

"You got to be in the game to take those half chances. You are not going to have a perfect game always, there are certain areas to work on as a group. All the eleven members need to put an effort collectively. I had no idea Shami did that (run-out), he was batting on 98. The way he batted was brilliant, we cannot get him out like that. Not something that we thought off, hats off to him, he played really well," Rohit said after the match.

India takes 1-0 lead, starts with a thumping win over Sri Lanka in series opener!

One of the best knocks in the history of ODI cricket from Virat Kohli (113 runs off 87 balls) helped India beat Sri Lanka by 67 runs in first match of the three-match ODI series, take 1-0 lead. India vs Sri Lanka 2nd ODI will be played on January 12 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
