Bayern Munich Name Thomas Tuchel As New Head Coach After Sacking Julian Nagelsmann
Tuchel has coached teams like Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea in the past.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich officially parted ways with their manager Julian Nagelsmann on Friday. In addition, the club has announced the appointment of former Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel as their new head coach.
35-year-old Nagelsmann had joined Bayern in 2021 after his stint with RB Leipzig. He managed to lead Bayern to a League title in his very first season in charge.
An official statement released by the club, however, has confirmed that it will Tuchel, 49, who will put pen on paper on a contract which runs till June 30, 2025. He is set to be in charge at the club starting coming Monday on March 27.
It is pertinent to note that the entire coaching staff headed by their now former German boss has been removed by the club which includes assistant coaches Dino Toppmoller, Benjamin Gluck and Xaver Zembrod.
It is being told that the decision was taken by the club CEO Oliver Kahn and board member for sport Hasan Salihamidzic. They had consulted the president of the club Herbert Hainer to arrive at this call.
“This has been the most difficult decision in my time as board member for sport at Bayern Munich. I have had an open, trusting, friendly relationship with Julian from day one. I regret the parting of the ways with Julian," Salihamidzic stated as per an official release on the club's website.
"But after a thorough analysis of the sporting development of our team, especially since January and with the experience of the second half of the previous season, we have now decided to release him. I am very grateful to Julian for what he has done for FC Bayern and I wish him all the best,” he added.
“When we signed Julian Nagelsmann for FC Bayern in the summer of 2021, we were convinced we would work with him on a long-term basis - and that was the goal of all of us right up to the end. Julian shares our aspiration to play successful and attractive football. But now we have come to the conclusion that the quality in our squad - despite the Bundesliga title last year - has come to the fore less and less often,” Club CEO Kahn said as per the same release.
In the German League table, Bayern are just 1 point behind the table toppers and rival Borussia Dortmund. In addition, The Bavarians are already in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League and will take on Manchester City in the final eight round of the tournament.
