Bayern Munich Announce Vincent Kompany As New Head Coach

The Bundesliga giants have announced the replacement of Thomas Tuchel, and a 'certain' Belgian is now at the helm. Here are the details.

Bayern Munich have announced the appointment of Vincent Kompany as new head coach of the club, as the former Burnley coach will switch from the Premier League for Bundesliga for his next assignment. The former Manchester City player guided Burnley back into the Premier League, but the 2023/24 season proved to be too much for his side, as the suffered relegation within 12 months from their promotion.

Bayern Munich, on the other hand, suffered their worst season in 13 years, as they went trophyless for the first time in 11 years, and finished outside Top 2 for the first time since 2011. Thomas Tuchel's first full season with Bayern Munich ended in a disaster, which forced the club to announce the sacking of the German during the latter half of the season.

The appointment of Vincent Kompany is an interesting selection, and the Belgian manager said the following upon joining the club:

“It’s a great honour to be able to work for this club. FC Bayern is an institution in international football. As a coach, you have to stand for who you are as a person: I love having the ball, being creative and we also have to be aggressive on the pitch and courageous. I’m now looking forward to the most basic things: working with the players, building a team. When the foundation is in place, success will follow.”

 

Burnley Pay Tribute To 'Departing' Vincent Kompany

In an official statement released by the club on Wednesday, May 29, the Premeir League club stated the following:

“Whilst we were initially confident in retaining our manager, the changing dynamics of the situation made this impossible. We understand the allure and prestige of a club like Bayern Munich and respect Vincent’s ambition to explore new opportunities. We have started the search for a new manager and will make an announcement in due course.”
