ENG vs WI, 2nd Test: England Thump Windies By 113 Runs At Old Trafford To Level 3-Match Test Series 1-1

Setting Windies a daunting 312 run target, the hosts bowled out West Indies for 198 and registered an emphatic 113-run win. Windies who were in a spot of bother early in their chase, were given some hope of resurrection by Brooks (62) and Jermaine Blackwood (55) managing fifties, but the efforts finally went in vain.

Hosts England beat the West Indies by a massive 113-runs to win the second Test at Manchester in thumping fashion and level the 3-match #raise the bat series 1-1. The England win at the Emirates Old Trafford ground was set by centuries from all-round Ben Stokes and Dom Sibley in the first innings and England put themselves in a commanding position in the Test match courtesy a mammoth 469-9 total on the back of a monumental 260-run partnership by all-rounder Ben Stokes (176) and fellow centurion Dom Sibley (120). Setting Windies a daunting 312 run target to win, the hosts bowled out the visitors for 198 and registered an emphatic 113-run win. Windies who were in a spot of bother early in their chase, were given some hope of resurrection by Brooks (62) and Jermaine Blackwood (55) managing fifties, but the efforts finally went in vain. A draw looked possible at one point when Blackwood and Brooks shared a 100-run stand for the fifth wicket, but once Stokes removed Blackwood with a superb bouncer which tied the batsman as he holed out to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, it was England all the way as Dom Bess and Chris Woakes cleaned up the lower order. Earlier on Day 5, England covered up for the lost time due to rain and scored at a quick pace in their second innings to set up a challenging target for the tourists. Stokes lead the efforts hitting a quickfire 57-ball 78 to set the Windies a target of 312. Stokes also bowled long and probing spells, finishing the match with three wickets. Stuart Broad claimed three wickets to raise England hopes of a series-levelling win early on. Veteran pacer Broad, who had said after the fourth day's play that England will go for the win, started on a perfect note as he dismissed opener John Campbell in the first over itself.
