Zimbabwe Break World Record With Highest-Ever T20I Total, Sikandar Raza Stars With 33-Ball Century

Zimbabwe recorded the highest-ever T20I total in the history of cricket's shortest. Captain Sikandar Raza's destructive century helped the team achieve the milestone.

Zimbabwe shattered the world record as they created history by posting the highest T20I total in the history of cricket. Zimbabwe scored 344 runs in 20 overs for the loss of four wickets against Gambia in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier Group B, 2024 match at Ruaraka Sports Club Ground, Nairobi. After posting the highest-ever T20I score, Zimbabwe also registered the biggest T20I by runs in the history of T20 Internationals.

Captain Sikandar Raza was at the centre Zimbabwe's record-breaking performance as he notched up an unbeaten 133 off just 43 balls. Raza hit 15 sixes and seven boundaries in his destructive innings. He acheived the century milestone in just 33 balls.

Zimbabwe, by racking up 344 runs, surpassed the record of the highest-ever T20I total previously held by Nepal, who scored 314 runs against Mongolia back in 2023.

Zimbabwe also etched their names in the history books by registering the biggest T20I win in terms of runs as they defeated Gambia by 290 runs. 

Opting to bat first, Zimbabwe openers Brian Bennett and T Marumani gave the team an excellent start, forming a 98-run opening wicket partnership. Gambia got Zimbabwe’s number three dismissed cheaply but Sikandar Raza unleashed destruction right from the get go. Raza ended unbeaten on 143 off 33 balls and helped Zimbabwe post the highest-ever T20I total.

Zimbabwe bowlers didn't hold back either as they did not let Gambia batters settle and bundled the entire team out for just the score of 54 in 14.4 overs, helping Zimbabwe record the biggest victory by runs in the T20I history.
